Funding comparison

Capvant vs Funding Circle: marketplace or direct lender?

Funding Circle is a direct lender making its own credit decisions; Capvant is a funding marketplace, not a lender, where vetted partners compete for your request. Comparing starts with a soft search and has no impact on your credit score.

How it works

1

Tell us what you need

Answer a few questions about your business and how much funding you’re after. It takes about 60 seconds.

2

Compare your matched offers

We match you with funding partners and bring back competing offers, a soft search with no impact on your credit score.

3

Get funded

Pick the offer that fits and get the funds in your account, often within a few working days.

01

Two different models, in plain terms

Funding Circle is an established UK business funding platform with a recognised brand and a long track record of supporting small and medium-sized businesses. For current products, eligibility, rates and fees, the most reliable source is always Funding Circle's own website, so treat the details below as a description of the model rather than today's specific terms.

Capvant works differently. It is a borrower-first marketplace rather than a lender. You make one short funding request, a soft search is run that does not affect your credit score, and you can then see real competing offers from a network of vetted funding partners. Capvant does not make the credit decision and is not the party lending the money, so the decision and the funding sit with the partner you choose.

The simplest way to picture it: one is a platform you apply to directly, and the other is a marketplace that brings several funding options into one place so you can compare before you commit.

  • a single, well-known platform you apply to directly
  • a marketplace that surfaces competing offers from multiple vetted partners
  • Capvant is not a lender and does not set the rate or make the approval decision
  • Always confirm current terms on each provider's own site
02

How applying typically feels on each

With a direct platform, you complete one application and receive a decision from that provider. If it suits your business and the offer works, that can be a clean, straightforward route, especially if you already know and trust the brand.

With Capvant, the goal is to avoid applying to several places one by one. A single request and a soft search let you compare offers side by side, which can be useful when you are not sure which product or which partner fits best. Because the search is soft, looking does not leave a hard footprint on your credit file.

Neither approach guarantees approval, and any responsible funder will still assess your business. The difference is mainly in how many options you see from a single enquiry, and how much comparing you do yourself before deciding.

03

What you can fund either way

Both models exist to put working capital into UK businesses. Through Capvant's partner network you can explore products including working capital, a business line of credit, equipment finance, invoice finance, Revenue Advance and term loans, so the right structure can be matched to what you actually need.

Funding Circle offers business funding products of its own, and the specific range can change over time, so check their site for what is currently available. If you have a particular structure in mind, for example invoice finance against your debtor book or equipment finance for a specific asset, it is worth confirming directly that each route supports it.

One UK note: there is no SBA-style government loan programme here as there is in the US, so UK comparisons are between commercial funders and the products they offer.

04

Who can apply, and the UK focus

Capvant is built for UK limited companies, LLPs and plcs rather than for sole traders or consumers, so the language and the products assume an incorporated business with accounts and a trading history. Funding Circle has its own eligibility criteria, which you should read on their site, as requirements differ between providers and can change.

Capvant operates in both the UK and the US, but this page is written for UK businesses funding in pounds. If you trade across both markets, it is worth checking which products and partners apply in each region.

Whichever route you take, expect a funder to look at things like time trading, turnover and affordability. No reputable provider offers guaranteed approval or funding with no credit check, so be cautious of anything that suggests otherwise.

05

Which might suit you

A single direct platform can be a good fit if you value a familiar brand, you are fairly confident about the product you want, and you are happy to apply to one provider and take the decision they offer. There is real simplicity in that, and Funding Circle is a credible, recognised name in UK business funding.

A marketplace tends to suit you better when you want to compare before committing, when you are unsure which product fits, or when you would rather one soft-search enquiry surface several options than fill in multiple separate applications. The trade-off is that you are choosing between offers rather than dealing with one lender end to end.

Many businesses sensibly do both: get a direct quote and also compare through a marketplace, then pick the offer with the terms and structure that work best. Comparing costs you little when the search is soft.

06

A short checklist to decide for yourself

Rather than take anyone's word for which is better, run both options through the same questions and compare the answers against your own situation. The right choice depends on your numbers, not on which brand is louder.

Use the points below as a starting list, and confirm anything that matters on each provider's own site before you sign.

Total costthe full cost over the term, not just a headline rate, including any fees
Product fitdoes it offer the structure you need (line of credit, invoice finance, equipment, term loan and so on)
Credit impact of lookingis it a soft search to get a quote, or a hard one
Choiceare you seeing one decision or several competing offers
Eligibilitytime trading, turnover and entity type (limited company, LLP, plc)
Speed and flexibilitytimelines, repayment terms and whether you can repay early
Supporthow clear the provider is about terms, and how easy they are to reach

Which should you choose?

This is the clearest structural contrast on this site: Funding Circle lends its own money and gives you one decision, while Capvant, a funding marketplace, not a lender, brings back competing offers from vetted partners. If a direct relationship with an established lender is what you want, Funding Circle does that well. If you want to compare before you commit, that is what Capvant is built for.

Choose Capvant if…

  • You want several competing offers before you commit
  • You are not yet sure which structure fits, term loan, invoice finance, equipment or Revenue Advance
  • You want a soft search first, with no impact on your credit score
  • You want offers judged against each other, not in isolation

Choose them if…

  • You specifically want Funding Circle's direct lending relationship
  • You know the product you want and prefer one application to one lender
  • A long-established lender brand matters most to you

Funding Circle, common questions

Is Capvant a lender like Funding Circle?

No. Capvant is a borrower-first marketplace, not a lender. It does not make the credit decision or fund the loan itself. Instead it lets you make one request and compare real offers from a network of vetted funding partners, and the chosen partner provides the funding.

Will comparing on Capvant affect my credit score?

Capvant uses a soft search to surface initial offers, which does not affect your credit score. If you decide to proceed with a partner, that funder may carry out further checks of its own. Looking and comparing on Capvant does not leave a hard footprint.

Is Capvant cheaper or faster than Funding Circle?

We would not claim that in absolute terms, because the cost and speed of any offer depend on your business and the partner you choose. The honest difference is in the model: a marketplace lets you compare several competing offers from one request, while a single platform gives you one direct decision. Compare the actual offers you receive.

What products can I compare through Capvant?

Through Capvant's partner network you can explore working capital, a business line of credit, equipment finance, invoice finance, Revenue Advance and term loans. For Funding Circle's current product range, check their own website, as offerings can change over time.

Who can use Capvant in the UK?

Capvant is for UK limited companies, LLPs and plcs, not sole traders or consumers. Funders will still assess factors like time trading, turnover and affordability. No provider offers guaranteed approval, and you should be wary of any service promising funding with no credit check.

Can I use both Funding Circle and Capvant?

Yes, and many businesses do. You can get a direct quote from a platform like Funding Circle and also compare offers through Capvant's marketplace, then choose whichever terms and structure suit you best. Because Capvant's initial search is soft, comparing costs you very little.
